Northfield Girls Hockey Rolls Past Red Wing!

Emma Peroutka celebrates her 1st varsity goal

Northfield got scoring from all around Thursday in a 9-0 rout of Big 9 Conference rival Red Wing at Northfield Ice Arena to pick up back-to-back wins. 

Junior forward Ayla Puppe netted her second game of three goals or more as well as her fourth multiple goal game to bring her total to 17 on the year. Senior Megan Snyder added two goals while others notching goals included freshman defender Eloise DeBus, senior forward Tove Sorenson, junior forward Emerson Garlie and eighth-grade forward Emma Peroutka, who scored her first career varsity goal for the Raiders.

Sophomore goalie Macy Mueller stopped all eight shots she faced for her second shutout of the season. 

Northfield (5-3, 2-0 Big 9), ranked No. 17 in Class 2A, took a 3-0 lead after the first period. Puppe started the scoring with an assist from Garlie 5 minutes, 24 seconds into the game. Sorenson followed that with a power-play goal at 8:42 with an assist from freshman forward Ashlyn Paukert. Snyder capped the scoring with a goal at 14:51 with assists from junior defender Grace McCoshen and Paukert. 

Northfield tallied 44 shots on goal in the game with 19 of them coming in the first period.

Puppe scored twice in the second period, first on the power play at 4:34 of the period and then at 11:18 of the period for her third goal of the game, both coming unassisted. Garlie pushed the lead to 6-0 with a power-play goal, the third of the game for Northfield, which has won four of its last five.

Peroutka scored with 10:17 left in the game on an assist from senior defender Lucy Boland to make it 7-0. DeBus scored with 5:50 to go on an unassisted goal and Snyder’s second goal with two minutes to play capped the scoring. 

The Raiders head to Mankato Friday to face Mankato West. The Scarlets (0-5-1, 0-4 Big 9) lost 8-1 to Rochester Century Tuesday in Rochester.
