Northfield continued its dominance over conference opponents Saturday with a 7-3 victory over Albert Lea at St. Olaf College.
The Class A No. 6-ranked Raiders (5-1, 3-0 Big 9) had no trouble with the Tigers (2-2-1, 0-1-1 Big 9) as senior winger Kam Kaiser and senior winger Cayden Monson tallied nine combined points. Kaiser scored three times and assisted on another goal while Monson scored once and assisted on four goals. Linemate and center Jake Geiger chipped in a goal and two assists.
Northfield grabbed a 2-1 lead after the first period behind goals from Kaiser and sophomore forward Christian Whiteman. Albert Lea halved the deficit with a goal at 13 minutes, 27 seconds of the period.
Monson scored on the power play just 3:50 into the second period for a 3-1 lead. Derek Laite scored at 10:45 of the period to make it 3-2.
Kaiser netted his second goal of the game at 11:54 of the period to extend the lead to 4-2.
The Raiders scored the next three goals of the game to extend the lead to 7-2. Geiger scored 32 seconds into the third period to make it 5-2. Will Cashin scored less than a minute later at 1:11 to make it 6-2 and Kaiser connected on the power play at 3:21 to make it 7-2.
Eli Ferris scored at 13:50 of the third period to make it 7-3.
Northfield outshot the Tigers 40-22 for the game and went 2-for-7 on the power play. Junior goaltender Max Frank made 19 saves for his third win of the season.
The Raiders face Monticello Tuesday at Northfield Ice Arena at 7:15 p.m.
