The Raiders entered the game at 7-4 overall and were up against the visiting 7-1 New Prague Trojans. Senior pitcher Courtney Graff started for the Raiders, pitching the whole game for them. Jordyn Marsh started for New Prague also pitching the whole game.
The Trojans got on the board early, scoring one run in the first scoring on a wild pitch. Marsh started the game off red hot, shutting down the Raiders bats through the first three innings. She only allowed one hit through the first three innings to senior Ruby Holman, but she was immediately thrown out attempting to steal second base.
New Prague took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third, scoring two runs on one play starting off with a wild pitch and ending with a throwing error from the catcher. In between the third and the fourth the weather took a turn for the worse, going from a cloudy day to a rainy day. The Raiders finally got on the board in the bottom of the fourth in a two run inning started off by Courtney Graff hitting a triple into left center, Graff then scored on a Lucy Menssen ground ball reached on error. Menssen then scored on a Megan Snyder single up the middle to make it a 3-2 ballgame still in favor of the New Prague Trojans.
After a scoreless top half of the fifth for the Trojans the Raiders came back with another two run inning as the weather continued to get worse. The big inning started off with left fielder Rita Langford reaching on error and being brought around by Courtney Graff with her second triple in as many innings. Lucy Menssen then came back up for the Raiders hitting an infield single where the third baseman made the questionable decision to throw home, but the throw was not in time and Graff was able to score giving the Raiders they’re first lead of the game at 4-3.
While the Raiders went to warm up for the sixth there was lighting spotted near the field and the game had to be called off. The Raiders took an official win because the game had gone through five innings and they moved to 8-4 on the season as New Prague fell to 7-2 overall. The Raiders softball team plays next Saturday May 6th, and the next softball game we will be broadcasting will be on Thursday May 11th.
