Wrestlers Sweep Pair of Conference Matches

The Raider wrestling team made the trip to Rochester Mayo High School to take on Winona and Austin on Wednesday night.

Northfield had a great first dual against a depleted Austin squad resulting in a 63-9. Caley Graber, Zane Engels, Sam Harner and Andrew Williams all won by fall. Jack Pribyl won by decision 7-3. Caden Staab, Keith Harner, Iah Schweick, Owen Murphy, Ryan Kuyper and Noah Ackerman all won by forfeit.

In the second conference battle of the night, the Raiders took down Winona 55-15. Zane Engels, Jackson Barron and Noah Ackerman won by fall. Caley Graber and Owen Murphy won by technical fall. Jack Pribyl won by decision 6-0. Caden Staab, Keith Harner, Sam Harner and Ryan Kuyper all won by forfeit.

Northfield will host Mankato West Friday night for teacher appreciation night and senior night beginning with the JV at 6 p.m.. Then on Saturday, the Raiders will send two wrestlers to the ninth grade state tournament in Champlin Park, two girls to a girls tournament in Pine Island, and the rest of the team will go to Cannon Falls for a dual tournament.

Also, the Northfield James Gang k-6th grade team will be wrestling this Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Northland Youth Wrestling Association’s ( NYWA’s) first annual King of the North vs. King of the South youth team competition. The Northfield James Gang team won the King of the South tournament and will wrestle the King of the North tournament winner, Centennial, before the University of Minnesota Gophers vs Iowa Hawkeye dual on February 3 at 5:30 p.m. at Maturi Pavillion.
